Doctor John (Jock) Whyte Grieve was a resident medical officer before becoming first registrar, employed by The Royal Children’s Hospital from 1919 to 1947. This album includes many group photos of staff who would have been working with Grieve at the time. Grieve’s wife, Margaret, also worked at the hospital as a nursing sister – she is captured in many of the images. The wide-format shots of wards and other facilities were taken by a professional photographic studio based out of Prahran.
J W Grieve has been described as studious and contemplative. It is these qualities that prompted The Royal Children’s Hospital to name a library in his honour.
